Mongers Adopt Orphaned Chinese Girl: Hit Many Hurdles

Bobby and Julie MongerIt goes without saying that there are millions of children around the world in desperate need of certain essentials.  Essentials we take for granted every day here in the United States.  Food, clothing, shelter, love, just to name a few.  Bobby and Julie Monger, who are currently serving in the province of Cheng Du, China, are striving to provide that for one special little girl.

The Mongers are attempting to adopt little Cassie from an orphanage just outside the Cheng Du province, but the red tape has regenerated seemingly thicker every time it has been cut.  The orphanage manager has stated that he prefers foreign adoption due to our “training” that adoption is a permanent solution in which that particular child becomes our own.  Despite this encouraging word, processes have been slow.

Mrs. Julie Monger reports that as of March 30th, Cassie’s files have been released from the orphanage.  That in and of itself is a blessing, and we praise the Lord for it; however, the files have been held up in a Cheng Du provincial office.  The goal is to have the files reach Beijing to move the adoption process along.  In addition, the Mongers are presiding over four similar adoption cases in an attempt to push them through to finding permanent homes.  What makes this situation all the more urgent is the fact that all of these children have some immediate medical need.

One can imagine that the needs are greatly multiplied in a nation like China.  First, the massive population soars over a billion.  This fact has caused the country to institute a one-child policy, meaning, just as it says, parents can have one child and one child only.  This presents a special problem, due to men desiring to have a boy to carry on his family name.  So if the gender result in pregnancy is female, most turn to either abortion or to adoption, which has caused over-populated orphanages.  With these facts in mind one would think it easy for the Mongers to procure a foreign adoption, but that unfortunately is not the case.

We know that God is sovereign and He is faithful, and that He will see this to the end for His glory.  We here at FHBC, along with the Monger family, ask you to continue to pray for Cassie, Cammie and the three other children going through this painstaking time, and we will rejoice and give Him all the glory.
